Romanzas ecuatorianas
The repertoire of composer Inés Jijón, a tribute to Ecuador’s women composers.
Ecuadorian classical music on the world’s stages.
As a pianist and a woman, I am committed to promoting and giving visibility to Ecuadorian classical music, through performances that reflect the rich rhythms and dances of Ecuador.
I am likewise an advocate for the repertoire of women composers, an artistic heritage that has often been marginalized. This commitment is embodied in the first-ever recording of works by Inés Jijón, on the album Romanzas ecuatorianas.
Angélica María Sánchez Bonilla, a pianist from Cuenca, studied at the José María Rodríguez Conservatory of Music and earned her bachelor’s degree at the Faculty of Arts of the University of Cuenca. On a scholarship, she completed a Master’s in Music Performance at Northwestern State University in the United States.
She has performed as a soloist with symphony orchestras across Ecuador and appeared in competitions, festivals and concerts in Argentina, Austria, Chile, Mexico, the United States, France, Peru and China, among others.
Recognizing the importance of promoting Ecuadorian music, she has focused on premiering works by national composers. Her research in piano pedagogy has been presented at national and international conferences.
She currently teaches at the Universidad Nacional de Educación (UNAE) and directs her own studio, Angélica Sánchez Piano Studio.
